*******
I had the opportunity to interview HGTV alumni Kristan Cunningham. She provided these DIY tips & summer decorating ideas which give you the most bang for your buck.
You may recognize Kristan from HGTV’s “Designer’s Challenge”, as part of the HGTV “Design on a Dime” family or as a judge and mentor for “HGTV’s $250,000 Challenge” and “Bang For Your Buck”. We talked about outdoor ideas including creating a “garden moment”, what one can do with a simple can of paint, and what you can do to spiff up your place if you’ve got guests arriving in 48 hours. Here’s Kristan speaking to us below.

Paint is the by far the least expensive and easiest DIY project one can do to give a room an instant makeover. I love the idea of making the outdoors a continuation of the indoors. The fabrics available for outdoors are amazing now, they include cottons but also velvets or even metallics! Painting the front door has a huge impact on your home! Thanks Kristan and Lisa!
Thanks for stopping by Elza! Yep, that front door is always such a simple way to give your entire home an updated look from the exterior. – Lisa
Not sure I could swing the lavendar door, but all good ideas to add some zing. I’m thinking about painting different color accents on my porch posts this summer. It’s fairly hard to pick an accent color to make mint green work. In my head, burgandy is sounding nice, but not sure reality will match up.
I love all the fabric choices avaible to make the patio, porch, deck, whatever cozy.
Thanks for stopping by Amy. Wanna know how they made lavender work? If you notice right in front there is a lilac tree, sure it only blooms once a year but if allows the feeling all year around. Need an accent color fir mint green? Work a color from plantings or a color used inside your home but keep the same intensity. Mint goes better with equally soft colors.
